MOTION GRAPHICS AND COMPOSITING
PROJECT 4
INSTRUCTIONS
Project 4 In this project, students will apply knowledge from tasks 1, 2, and 3 to create a theme-based abstract motion graphic video with strong audio-visual elements. The output can be in 3D, 2D, mixed media, or experimental visuals.
Progress
In my project, I chose the theme 'Think Out of the Box.' As designers, repeating the same methods leads to stagnation; innovation requires constant research and exploration.
In primary school, learning videos helped me understand topics better. Inspired by this, I aim to create a clear and simple video using words and images.
Script My video aims to convey that our potential is limitless, but giving up prevents us from discovering it.
Storyboard
Part 1: Emphasizing the Video's Theme
Part 2: Exploring the Theme and Reinforcing the Message
Editing ProgressAfter finalizing the script and storyboard, I created the video in After Effects.
After that, I used AI to generate the text-to-speech narration.
TV On & Off Effect Progress
I added an on-and-off effect to the TV to make the video feel like it was watching television.
Next, I switched the viewing mode to "Final Output," increased the intensity to 8, and selected a monochromatic color scheme.
Screen Effect Progress
I used an effect called Optics Compensation, which helped me create the TV frame.
Since I don't have the scan line effect, I used the Grid effect as an alternative.
The effect didn’t achieve the desired result, so I decided to remove it.
Final Outcome
REFLECTIONS
Over the past 14 weeks, I explored various effects in After Effects. Motion graphics have been a fun and creative learning process. Each project had a different focus; for example, Project 2: Channel Bumper focused on the brand, while Project 3: Channel Ident focused on the product.
Project 4, a freestyle project, was the most challenging. At first, I struggled to come up with ideas and felt creatively drained. However, after referencing senior students' work, I was inspired by a TV talk show format. At the same time, I realized that as designers, we sometimes face creative blocks.
Overall, I’m satisfied with my work, though the TV screen effect didn’t turn out as expected. This module helped me understand professional creative processes, and I look forward to exploring more in After Effects for future projects.
