Task 3/ Type Exploration and Application
In this task, we were required to choose one of the three methods given and create a new font.
Methods:
1. Design a font to address a significant issue or contribute to a solution in fields like graphic design, animation, new media, entertainment design, or related areas.
2. Enhance an existing letterform by assessing its current context, identifying areas for improvement, and exploring creative solutions.
3. Conduct an experiment. Make sure it's unique and working with material that might be 3 dimensional, digitally augmented, edible, unusual, typographic music video, or fine art.
Proposal Ideas
Among these two ideas, I decided to go with idea 2 (Create a font for all vintage filters in Instagram).

After the tracing, I used the font (Myriad Pro) in Adobe Illustrator as my reference to measure all my fonts' height and size.

FontLab8Moving on, I keyed in the ascender, descender, x-height, and cap-height in FontLab8 and named it as Margania.

Finally, I fine-tune the kerning of the letters to ensure perfect spacing when they are typed out.

Font ApplicationI explored some Instargram story.

I experimented with my font by incorporating it into image overlays, creating a visual style reminiscent of an Instagram story.

FEEDBACKS
Week 9
General Feedback: You can't create a signature typeface.
Specific Feedback: Do research on script typeface (exp: Vampiro)
Week 10
General Feedback: The purpose of the fonts is stated clearly.
Specific Feedback: The height of the letter must be the same.
Week 11
General Feedback: Compare the letter and make sure it is aligned.
Specific Feedback: Check the font (uppercase and lowercase height) using the already exited font.
Week 12
General Feedback: Use the chart given in teams for the kerning.
Specific Feedback: (No feedback)
Week 13
General Feedback: See the examples given in teams.
Specific Feedback: It is okay to show in 1024x1024, but it is better to try to present it on a device (phone) as you are doing a font for the vintage filter in Instagram.
Week 14
General Feedback: Start the blog and finish by today.
Specific Feedback: (No feedback)
Experience
The process of creating the new font was enjoyable, especially since I had a clear target in mind. Familiarity with the app reduced stress during the project. However, there was a slight setback when I finished kerning on my computer, only to find out my trials had expired. This required me to redo the kerning in the computer lab. Despite this, I am still satisfied with the final outcome.
Observation
In this task, I've learned the importance of ensuring that our font size and height align with the reference font during the creation process. If we don't follow it, a situation like unbalanced or not in position will happen when kerning.
Findings
I discovered that lowercase letters (such as b, d, h, etc.) appear higher than their uppercase counterparts.

Part 01:
Semantics, syntactics, and pragmatics are three important aspects of design discussed in the document.
Semantics:
- The search for the meaning of whatever is being designed which involves researching the history and nature of the subject to understand its context and find the most appropriate direction for the design.
- It was essential for a satisfactory design outcome and to provide the basis for correct inception of projects.
Syntactics
- The discipline that controls the proper use of grammar and syntax in design.
- It involves the overall structure, grid, typefaces, text, and illustrations in graphic design.
-Syntactic consistency is crucial in achieving a cohesive and effective design.
