INSTRUCTIONS
Task 2A: Key Artwork
In task 2A, we are tasked with crafting a wordmark using our name, which should consist of at least four letters. This wordmark will function as a unique and distinctive personal identifier.

Sketches
I decided to use my name "Jie Ying".

Figure 2.1 Sketches (18.09.23)
After getting feedback from Mr. Vinod, I realized that my wordmark was meaningless and lacked craft.
In the following sketch, I substituted "Tan Jie" for "Jie Ying" and directed my efforts toward creating a signature-style appearance. During the sketching process, I discovered an interesting connection between the letters T and J, which brought to mind the mathematical symbol Pi (π). This symbol resonates with me because it is a subject that I love to hate。

Finally, I came out with my favorite ones.

Based on the chosen sketch, I tried a few types of design.

Figure 3.2 Trail outs (20.09.23)
I presented my trials to Mr. Vinod. Following our discussion, I made the decision to concentrate on the original wordmark design, with a minor adjustment to the angle for refinement.

AttemptJust like the number or symbol in the calculator.
Figure 4.1 First Attempt (27.09.23)
Following the instruction of Ms. Vinod:
- Create a landcape A4 artbord.
- Place the wordmark inside a big square on the left.
- Place the wordmark inside a 15mmx15mm square on the right top.
- Online search for a model who is wearing a black T-shirt, and place the wordmark on the T-shirt.
- Print and present.Figure 4.2 Printed wordmark 01 (27.09.23)
Based on the feedback, I have adjusted the stroke and the space within the letter to make it more readable.

The collateral background doesn't fit the theme.
I decided to use more tiles to separate the color, but it ended up too much. So I went back to 9 tiles.

Animated Key Artwork
My key artwork draws its inspiration from the world of mathematics. In the realm of secondary education, calculators are our trusty companions for solving mathematical equations. My concept was entering the number on the calculator.

FEEDBACKS
Week 4
General Feedback: It is meaningless and lack of craft.
Specific Feedback: Need to be representative. The stroke can be thin to thicker or remain the same. Must be consistent.
Week 5
General Feedback: Can't read it clearly.
Specific Feedback: Make the space the same width as the stroke.
Week 6
General feedback: Can't distort the word mark.
Specific feedback: A bit messy. Adjust the empty space length to be the same as the stroke.
Week 7
General feedback: Overall is okay
Specific feedback: Can see that you are trying to connect them. Change the background of the mock-up if it doesn't fit.
Week 8
Independent learning week no class. Do a proposal or trail of task 3.
REFLECTIONS
Experience
I experienced exhaustion throughout the entire journey of this task. It demanded an immense amount of concentration and mental effort from me to ensure the coherence and consistency of my wordmarks, final design, and color choices.
Observation
Crafting a wordmark that truly encapsulates a personal or brand identity is a substantial endeavor. Whether it's for a modest or substantial entity, a straightforward or intricate design, it must possess a deep significance, instantly recognizable by people. Furthermore, formatting Instagram posts presents its own set of challenges. Skillful use of colors and strategic links to different image sections can enhance the overall aesthetic appeal of the design.
Findings
Through constant observation and meticulous revision of a series of processes from product creation to media integration, I successfully created an online store account that resonated with my audience. Participating in these assignments prompted me to scrutinize other Instagram posts, promotional materials, and wordmarks, and expand my design ideas.
