DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY AND IMAGING
PROJECT 1

Project 01A - Physical Collage Design
We initiate the process by crafting a physical collage to enhance our comprehension of this course. Utilizing the materials available in our magazine, we carefully select and extract the desired components, strategically arranging them in optimal positions.

Figure1.1 Pre-compositions

A minimum of three exemplary collages should be captured and uploaded to the provided Google Docs. Mr. Fauzi will then assess the compositions and select the most outstanding ones, which will be affixed as the final outcome.

Project 01B - Digital Collage

Part 1
Basic tools such as the lasso tool and pen tool in Adobe Illustrator were taught in class. Based on what we learned from Mr. Fauzi's demonstration, create three digital collages using the images provided.

Among these three, I liked the third one the most.

Part 2
After choosing the best one, apply adjustment layers and filters.

Reflection

In Project 1A, I embarked on exploring collages and filters. As a starting point, I was advised to begin with physical collages before delving into Adobe Photoshop. Although I was not very familiar with collages, I conducted some research on Pinterest to gain a rough understanding of the concept. Initially, I cut out numerous elements from magazines, but upon assembling them, I realized that they didn't align with my vision. After several trial and error attempts, I decided to focus on the green girl against an article-style background. Figure 1.1 demonstrates how simplifying the background proved to be more effective, as the initial complexity detracted from the overall composition.

Transitioning to digital collages, I was provided with fixed photos to create three different outcomes. This task presented a significant challenge for me since I had little knowledge about arranging the elements. It took me several days to develop the three desired outcomes, during which I encountered some difficulties while using the Photoshop application. I lost my way in Photoshop, struggling to understand how to position the images and utilize the available tools. The low point came when using the quick selection tool, as I struggled to accurately select small edges, resulting in wasted time and effort. On a more positive note, I found working with filters quite enjoyable.

Moving on to Project 1B, I thoroughly enjoyed the process of blending people into backgrounds and adding color to black-and-white images using masking layers. I am highly satisfied with the final outcomes I achieved.

In conclusion, through these projects, I gained a solid understanding of collage concepts, became familiar with various tools in Photoshop, and learned how to add layers, apply filters, introduce colors, and utilize masking techniques.
